Champion Together
About Us
Champions Together is a collaborative partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Special Olympics Indiana that promotes servant leadership among student athletes while changing their lives as well as the lives of those with intellectual disabilities.
Special Olympics International is supporting Champions Together as a model program to activate schools through “Project Unify” which also has the endorsement of the National Federation of High Schools.
The Greensburg Community Schools are one of just a few schools in the state that have this program in all three schools. Last year was the first year that we earned the banner as a Champion School in all the buildings.
This year, we have around 170 Partners and 80 Athletes participating. We are excited to see this program grow as Athletes and Partners work together to build programs in are schools.
What makes a Champion School?
Student Leadership- All school sponsored activities must be planned, organized and administered by an Inclusive Student Leadership team that strives to do things WITH students with intellectual disabilities NOT FOR them.
Whole School Engagement - The school must participate in at least one activity designed around Whole School Engagement that promotes and encourages awareness, respect and inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities.
Unified Sports - The school must organize and participate in at least one Unified Sportsactivity such as IHSAA Unified Track & Field and Flag Football, a Unified practice or clinic, or a Unified competition such as Unified Bocce or Unified Bowling with students with intellectual disabilities OR local Special Olympics athletes. Participation in Unified Fitness Clubs and/or Unified physical education meets the requirements as a Unified sport.
Fundraising - The school must raise a minimum of $1500 (high schools), $750 (middle schools), and $250 (elementary schools) for the Champions Together project.
2022-23
In 2022-23 Greensburg Community Schools received the status of a Champion School in all three buildings. Throughout the state, Greensburg was one of the only districts to receive this honor. Our students worked hard too accomplish this award and we are proud of their work throughout the year.
2023-24
In the 2023-24 school year, we are excited to improve what he have accomplished and allow our Athletes and Students to become the voice of the program. This year we will be offering more opportunities in the school as we build towards total inclusion among our students.
This school year we are meeting with Athletes and Partners more in depth to see what changes they want to bring to the school environment where all student have the opportunity to thrive in every aspect.

During the November meeting, students will begin planning out the rest of the years events. Some of those activities will be:

- Unified Recess

- Autism Acceptance Month
- Unified Gameday
Stay up to date with Greensburg Jr. High Champions Together in the Middle
- Greensburg Jr. High Champions Together in the Middle meets every Thursday at 7:30a in the Auxilary Gym
Over the past couple months, students havre been working together with the coffee cart process. Students work together preparing breakfast for staff and then sell those items to staff to generate money for the program.
In November, we also started Unified Cornhole, where students are practicing getting ready for a school meet. Top teams will be awarded a Champions Together Medal.
Greensburg Jr High Champions Together will continue planning out the rest of the years events. Some of the upcoming activities that we will work on are:

- Greensburg High School Champions Together meets every Thursday at 11:00a in the Auditorium.
Greensburg High School Students have begun meeting in the mornings to further plan our activities. Some of the events that we are planning are:
